NEWPORT and CORINNA – Mary (Tardy) Brewer, 84, died Jan. 12, 2006, at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Newport, a daughter of Guy and Mabel (Prescott) Tardy. Mary was a graduate of Newport High School. She was a life member and past president of Barrows-Skidgel Post 105 American Legion Auxiliary. She had been an active member and Sunday school teacher for many years at the People’s United Methodist Church in Newport. She had most recently attended the Morses Corner Baptist Church in Corinna. Mary loved music, and in her early years, sang with country and western bands, having sung with Slim Clark, Dick Curliss and Curly O’Brien. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Brewer, Aug. 21, 2005. She is survived by two sons, Norbert “Guy” and wife, Debbie Brewer, of Corinna, Mahlon and wife, Nancy Brewer, of Newport; a brother, Elden and wife, Sylvia Tardy, of Newport; two sisters, Maude Smith of Newport and Janace Wesley of Lakeland, Fla., six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the Morses Corner Baptist Church, Exeter Road, Corinna, with Pastor Clarence Arno, officiating. A spring graveside committal service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Newport. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport.
