SEARSPORT and VERONA Brian A. Bowden “Tiny,” 50, of Searsport, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, after courageous battle with cancer. Brian was born June 13, 1957, to Merle E. and Dorothy (Gross) Bowden of Verona Island. He graduated from Bucksport High School, where he played football and was an All-American defensive lineman. He carried on his love of football by coaching for the Pop Warner football league. Brian attended the University of Maine – Bangor and studied law enforcement. He had been a part-time police officer for both Bucksport and Verona. Brian worked as a coating prep operator for Verso Paper for more than 30 years and was a member of United Steel Workers Union, Local 1188. Brian was also a member of Rising Star Masonic Lodge No. 177, Penobscot. Brian had been a member at both Country View Golf Course and Searsport Pines, after taking up golf with his wife. Brian especially enjoyed spending summers at camp on Half Moon Pond, where he spent time with his family and lakeside friends kayaking, fishing and hosting cookouts. Surviving Brian are his wife, Patricia Tibbetts of Searsport; his children, Gabriel Bowden and his fianc?e, Erin Boyle, of Bangor and Brianya Bowden and her boyfriend, Adam Duke, of Sullivan; stepchildren, Tricia McGinty of Prospect and Keith Tibbetts of Swanville; grandchildren, Nicholas Gould and Erin McGinty; one sister, Sonya Harriman and her husband, Marvin; and one brother, Stephen Bowden and his wife, Lynn, all of Bucksport, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Brian was predeceased by his parents. Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. A reception will be held after the service at Franklin Street United Methodist Church, Bucksport. Interment will be in the spring.
