EDDINGTON – Burton Louis Jenkins, 86, husband of the late Phyllis M. (Sargent) Jenkins, died March 18, 2006, in his sleep at home after a brief illness and has joined Phyllis and his other family members in eternity. He was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Bangor, the son of Burton L. and Grace T. (Bernardini) Jenkins. Burt, as he was known, attended schools in Bangor and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre in the Philippines, Australia and New Guinea. He worked for 20 years for Milliken-Tomlinson Trucking, Bangor and worked 18 years for Coles Express. Burt was a resident of Bangor for more than half of his life, resided in Veazie for 20 years and moved to Eddington after retirement. He especially enjoyed fishing, nature and woodworking and loved the Boston Red Sox. A highlight of his life was seeing the Red Sox win the World Series, the first time during his lifetime. Burt was thankful for being able to live at home and enjoyed having his family and friends visit. Surviving is one daughter, Joan E. (Jenkins) Graffam and her husband, Charles “Chuck” Graffam Jr., of Orrington; and one foster daughter, Joan “Joni” (Hutchinson) Mitchell and her husband, Kimball, of Bangor; six grandchildren, Stacy and Donna Graffam of Bergenfield, N.J., Burton “Tony” Graffam and his wife, Bea, of Bangor, Tara (Mitchell) Kumar and her husband, Chetan, of Fort Mitchell, Ky., Charles ” Chad” Graffam III and Hilary Servisky of Glenburn, Petty Officer 2nd Cl. Jeremy Graffam and his wife, Crystal, of Edgecomb, and Amanda Mitchell of Bangor; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Graffam-Drew, Charles “Creed” Graffam IV, Zachary, Jeremy “JJ,” Alexandra, Gabriel and Kayla Graffam; two great-stepgrandchildren, Cassey Whipple and Chelsea Parent; one sister, Estella Mallek of Framingham, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by seven sisters, Lillis, Marjorie and Alberta Jenkins, Marie MacDonald, Helen Larkin, Thelma Cedrone and Minnette Campbell; three brothers, Stanley, Alden and Harvey Jenkins Sr.; and two nephews, Jay Larkin and John Washek Jr. Friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Maria Guereca, presiding. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter of choice.
