FARMINGTON – Byron Austin Lamson, 90, formerly of Addison, died Nov. 21, 2006, at Sandy River Health Care Center, Farmington, where he had resided for the past five years. He was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Addison, the son of Austin L. and Mildred Byron (Donovan) Lamson. He graduated from Addison High School in 1936. He attended the National Youth Administration School, Dexter, then worked in New Haven, Conn., as a machine operator making parts for government military contracts. He entered the U.S. Army July 12, 1945, and was discharged as a private first class Nov. 13, 1945. He married Sylvia Marie Christensen of Yarmouth June 19, 1943, in New Haven, Conn. They had four children. Byron returned to Addison in 1945 to work as a lobsterman and truck driver. He and his father built a 36-foot lobster boat. In 1951, he moved to North Yarmouth and worked as a can-maker for the American Can Co., Portland, and built a house for his family. Byron returned to Addison in 1958 and worked as a lobsterman, mechanic and carpenter. From 1965 to 1982, he was self-employed building houses. He and David Grant patented a blueberry-raking machine in 1971. He earned a master oil burnerman’s license in 1974. After semi-retirement in 1982, he did wood and metal work using his lathes. He enjoyed solving construction and mechanical problems. Byron served on the Addison School Board from 1961 to 1964, and was on the Addison Town Budget Committee for several years. He was secretary of the Mayhew Library from 1958 to 1981. In 1983, Byron and Sylvia traveled by camper to Alaska. He enjoyed walking in the woods and along the shore, and was an avid reader. In 2000, Byron and Sylvia moved to Weld. Byron is survived by his wife of 63 years Sylvia; children, Darryl and Sharon (Schmidt) Lamson of Warrensburg Mo., Diana and Joseph Demers of Weld, Donna and William Price of Glenville, N.Y., Debra and Stephen Heathcote of East Holden; nine grandchildren, Dawn (Demers) Cummings of Norway, Allyn Elizabeth (Demers) and David Harcus of Jamestown, N.C., Daniel and April (Roberts) Demers of Huntersville, N.C., Joseph and Shoshana (Congelosi) Demers of Cornelius N.C., Jennifer (Price) and Jason Fuller of Gardner, Mass., David Price of Troy, N.Y., Stephanie (Heathcote) and Joshua Bickford of Brewer, Holly Heathcote and Samuel Heathcote, both of East Holden; and six great-grandchildren, Amanda and Allison Cummings, Faith Harcus, Aaren Boggs, Gavin Bickford and Merrick Fuller. Byron was predeceased by his father in 1963; his mother in 1972; his sister, Frances (Lamson) Look in 1981; and a granddaughter, Suzanne Demers in 1970. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family, at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton.
