OLD TOWN – Byron “Buddy” G. Chappelle, 69, died Feb. 8, 2005, at a Boston hospital after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Old Town, the oldest son of George and Juliet Chappelle. Bud was employed as a meat cutter for 40 years starting in 1952 with the First National Stores, then with A&P Food Stores, Richard’s Yankee Grocer and then took early retirement in 1992 from the Shop ‘n Save (Hannaford). After a year of retirement, he started working part-time as a security officer at Georgia Pacific, and currently was employed as a part-time parts delivery driver for Darling’s in Bangor. Bud joined the Knights of Columbus in 1954 and received the honors of the 4th Degree in 1957 and was a charter member of Fr. Druillette Council in which he served in several office positions. He was appointed State Marshal of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and served in that capacity for 33 years. He served on the parish council of St. Joseph Church (Holy Family) and has served on the Old Town School Board. He was a current member and former officer of the Old Town Lodge of Elks and also a former member of the 195th Army Band in the National Guard. Bud enjoyed his drumming profession and performed in several bands over the years including the Bangor Band, Brewer Hometown Band, Penobscot Wind Ensemble, Hal Wheeler Band, Skyliners Dance Band, and Governor’s Marching Band. He expressed much passion in drumming and will be deeply missed by these many band members. Bud is survived by his wife of 42 years, Delcina (Leveille) Chappelle of Old Town; three children of whom he was so proud; sons, Gregory B. Chappelle of Old Town, Daniel G. and his wife, Ellen Chappelle, of Seattle, Wash., and daughter, Lynn Chappelle Dyer and her husband, Jeffrey, of Old Town; his grandson, Nathan Dyer, whom he cherished dearly; two brothers and their spouses, Wayne “Dick” and Joan Chappelle of Old Town and Thomas “Skip” and Carolyn Chappelle of Veazie; two sisters and their spouses, Judith and Paul Ouellette and Deborah and Eugene Seymour of Milford; a very special brother-in-law, the Rev. Rudolph Leveille, of Bangor; as well as several nieces and nephews. It was Bud’s request that visiting hours be private. A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Holy Family Church, Old Town, with the Rev. Rudolph Leveille, as principal celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the Parish hall immediately following the service. Spring interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Old Town.
