GLOUCESTER, Mass. – Capt. Gordon “Jose” Nichols, 62, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, surrounded by his family at his home. Born Feb. 24, 1944, in Portland, he was the son of the late Gordon and Virginia (Davis) Nichols. He had resided between Cherryfield and Gloucester, Mass., his entire life. He was employed for many years as the captain of the fishing vessel Pretty Girl, owned by Lou Williams out of Swampscott, Mass. He was a social member of the AMVETS Post No. 32 and a member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks No. 82. He was also an avid motorcycle rider. He is survived by his longtime companion, Mary Sullivan; a daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Richard Hardison of Waltham, Mass.; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles A. and Kathy Jo Nichols of Swampscott, Mass., Joe Nichols of Lynn, Mass., and 4 Nomor Nichols of Kaiserslautern, Germany; nine grandchildren, Bridget, Piper, Tanner and Hayden Hardison, Justin, Tayler, Jason and Jax and Khloe Nichols; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Kenny and Donna Nichols of Salem, Mass., and Cathy Nichols of Lynn, Mass.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Wanda Nichols and Karen and Terry Spence; a stepmother, Joan Nichols, all of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his extended family and their families, Mary Diane Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds and his fiancee, Lisa Clancy, Shawn and his wife, Terri Reynolds, Jacqueline and her husband, John-Stephen Phinney, Patti and her husband, William Philbrick, Laverne and her husband, Peter Suputo and Joan Reynolds and her husband, Arthur Tucker, all of Gloucester, Mass. He was also predeceased by a brother, William Nichols. Visiting hours will be held 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, Mass. A reception will be held after at the AMVETS Post, Prospect Street. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Funeral services will be privately held at Intervale Cemetery, Cherryfield, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the family.
