BROOKS – Carl O. Brown, 75, unexpectedly entered his eternal dwelling place with the Lord May 15, 2008. He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Belfast, son of Ralph and Eva Brown. He was always a successful, self-employed entrepreneur, starting at the age of 21. Carl owned a chain saw shop, school bus and poultry farm simultaneously. He then became a building contractor and developer, building more than 100 homes and other buildings in the area. For the last 29 years, he co-owned and managed Country View Golf Club, Brooks, with his wife, Irene; and his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Paula Brown. Carl was an adoring, loving, devoted father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Always a hard worker and an excellent provider for his family, he was always extremely generous and giving to others. He loved working outside at the golf course and loved the friendship of golfers. He was extremely well liked by all and was greeted with a “Hi Carl,” from golfers from Caribou to southern Maine, many other states and Canada. Carl served many years as a selectman for the town of Brooks. Carl was one of the initial founders and a president and long-time member of the Brooks Booster Club, having given uncounted personal time and use of his equipment to the club throughout many years. Until a few years ago, he was commonly seen at Brooks Fourth of July Fair, working to raise money for the club. Carl was also a director from Brooks for 25 years for the Mount View Fund for Further Education, also serving as president for a time. Carl and his wife, Irene, were honored by the Brooks Booster Club, as Outstanding Citizens of the Town of Brooks in 1990 and were awarded a Proclamation by the State of Maine House of Representatives for their community service. Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene Brown of Brooks; daughters, Cynthia Greenacre and husband, Miles, of Hampden and Claudette Aurie of Hampden; grandchildren, Kelci Desmarais and hus-band, Mike, of Lowell, Mass., Darci Greenacre of Hampden, Juliana, Robbie and Alexis Aurie of Hampden; and brothers, Harold of West Willington, Conn., Richard of Southampton, N.Y., Steve of Clinton, and their wives. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Country View Golf Club, Route 7, Brooks. Carl would prefer casual attire. In lieu of flowers, Carl wanted contributions to a scholarship fund for his grandchildren. Please make checks payable to Edward Jones, care of Carl Brown Grandchildren Fund and mail to Cynthia Greenacre, 745 Western Ave., Hampden, ME 04444. Arrangements under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
