BAILEYVILLE – Carl O. West Sr., 83, went to be with the Lord Thursday morning, Nov. 11, 2004, with family and friends by his side. He was born Nov. 13, 1920, at Eastport, a son of Carl and Mavis Dixon West. Mr. West had worked at the Domtar Mill (formerly Georgia-Pacific) for more than 40 years. He was an active member of The Peoples United Methodist Church of Baileyville and was an honorary member of The American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and spending time at his camp on Meddybemps Lake. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy (McCulloch) West; a grandson, Carl Anthony; a brother, Owen; and a sister, Anona Mercier. Surviving are his son, Carl Jr. and wife, Joan, of Kelso, Wash.; his daughter, Linda Croman and her husband, Steve, of Baileyville; two grandsons, Carl IV and his wife, Diana, of Flower Mound, Texas, Stephen and his fianc?e, Anna Bellamy of Vancouver, Wash.; a granddaughter, Stacey Gillis and her husband, Robert, of Alexander; six great-grandchildren, Tessa of Vancouver, Wash., Shayne and Kendra of Flower Mound, Texas, Shelby of Alexander, Josh and Melissa Gillis; a sister, Ruth McCarthy of Lisbon Falls; a brother-in-law, Wilfrid McCullough and his wife, Dottie, of Del City, Okla.; a brother-in-law, Donald Mercier of Baileyville; several nieces and nephews; three other grandchildren, Scott, Karen and Laurie of Massachusetts. He will be missed by his friends Pat and Dick Lowe and his friends at the American Legion. Those who wish may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday, at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, at the Peoples United Methodist Church, Baileyville, with the Rev. Bernard Hammond officiating. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville.
