MONTICELLO – Carlton A. Brewer died April 5, 2007, in Houlton. He was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Mon-ticello, the son of Ashley and Gertrude (Miller) Brewer. Carlton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was the captain of the Monticello Fire Department for 28 years and was recently awarded the first Lifetime Charter Membership. He was a past master of the Monticello Grange, the Pomona Grange, past Maine State Grange deputy, and won the 2001 Farm Family of the Year Award. He was a member of the Agricultural Commission and the American Legion. Carlton was a potato farmer and also the bus driver for SAD No. 29 for 32 years. He is survived by five children, Karla and her husband, Ron Seaman, of Freeport, Lori and her husband, Tim McLaughlin, of Pittsford, N.Y., Ashley Brewer and his friend, Lisa Matthews, of Houlton, Angela Brewer and her friend, Paul Raymond, of Hodgdon, and Calvin Brewer and his friend, Tara Lynds, of Monticello; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Trevor Seaman, Brett and Erin McLaughlin, Ryan Jackson, Sara Brewer, Hannah Elland, and Chase Brewer; two great-granddaughters, Riley and Haylie Jackson; one brother, Jay Brewer of Robinson; two sisters, Iona Nadeau of Oakfield and Betty Williams of Houlton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian, in 2006; and his brothers and sisters, Alvin, Velma, Annie and Shirley. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Carl DeMerchant officiating. Interment will be held in the spring at Foster Cemetery, Monticello. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Monticello Grange, care of Bowers Funeral Home, P.O.
