OWLS HEAD – Carol Ann Holman died Feb. 23, 2004, at home after a brief but valiant battle with Adenocarcinoma. She was surrounded by her loving husband and her daughter. She was born Feb. 27, 1935, in Boston, Mass. the daughter of Crawford and Lillian Ljunggren Fisher. She graduated from Wellesley High School in 1953. Carol moved to Maine in 1956, with her first husband, William McLoon, making her home first in Rockland. In 1970, she and her family moved to Owls Head. She worked as an executive secretary then as a legal secretary for several local businesses. At the age of 60, she began a career change, and attended the Mid-Coast School of Technology, where she graduated as a CNA. This change brought complete happiness and fulfillment to Carol. She worked at the former Camden Healthcare Center, now known as Quarry Hill. She often remarked that working as a CNA was the most satisfying job in her lifetime. She truly loved her patients and co-workers. She was a talented artist and had won many prizes for her watercolors. She enjoyed painting nature scenes, especially flowers and the rocky coastline. She also was a judge for the Maine Lobster Festival and Schooner Days Art Competitions. Carol was a member of the South Thomaston Ambulance Service for 17 years, and served as an assistant director. She was extremely proud of her four trips to Honduras. She traveled as an EMT with a team of medical professionals from the mid-coast area, fondly referred to as the “Mature Group.” These caring individuals administered medical and dental attention to native Hondurans. Carol always returned from these trips with a fresh appreciation for life. In September, Carol and her husband enjoyed a month-long trip across America. They camped in a tent, along with their two dogs, Mandy and Misty and enjoyed God’s marvelous creations. She especially enjoyed the National Parks in the Rocky Mountains and the state of Utah. She attended her 50th high school class reunion in October 2003 at the Weston Country Club in Massachusetts. Her hobbies included gardening, baking, knitting and reading. She loved animals and truly found joy in the simple things in life. She thanked God for every day and kept her sense of humor, even throughout her illness. She accepted her illness with grace and dignity and felt truly blessed by all that God had given her. She is survived by her loving husband, John T. Holman, with who she had celebrated 25 years of a beautiful life together; her daughter, Wendy McLoon of Owls Head; her son, John W.
