WINTERPORT – Carol Louise Carney, 92, died March 15, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Orlando, Fla., the daughter of James R. and Mary L. (Vance) Hodgkins. In the 1950’s Carol and her husband, Roderick owned and managed Carney’s Store and Eastman Clothing Store, both in Ellsworth. She worked for several years in banking at the Union Trust Co. and The Bar Harbor Banking and Trust Co. Then in the early 60’s she moved with her family to Bangor and worked at the Bangor City Hospital until her retirement. Carol was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Women’s Council, both of Ellsworth. Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, which were really her whole life. Carol is survived by a son, James R. Carney; a daughter, Jane C. Cole and husband, Kenneth, all of Bangor; two sisters, Mary Paquet and Esther Collier Testa, both of Bar Harbor and Cocoa Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Michael Cole, of Bangor, Lynn Maddocks and husband, David, of Old Town and Sheila Goodine and husband, Walter, of Levant; seven great-grandchildren, Adam, Joshua, Meghan, Kalie, Ryan, Kaleb and Isabelle; cousins, Florence V. Owen, of Orange City, Fla. and Geneva A. Pratt of Old Town; and special friend, Bessie Garland Chute, of Ellsworth. She was predeceased by her husband, Roderick M. Carney.
