LUBEC – Carolyn Ann McConnell, 70, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at her home. Carolyn was born April 4, 1938, in Lubec, daughter of the late Carl and Cecelia (Brown) Newman. She graduated from Lubec High School, Class of 1956. On July 20, 1957, Carolyn married Carl McConnell. She attended Husson College, graduated from the University of Maine – Machias with a bachelor’s degree in education, and obtained her master’s degree in special education from the University of Maine at Orono. From 1973 to 1998, Carolyn was employed as a teacher and special education administrator at various schools in Washington County, including Lubec School District, 1973-1976; Edmunds, 1976-1977; School Union 104, 1977-1984; SAD 19, 1984-1994; School Union 104, 1994-1995; and School Union 102, 1995-1998. Carolyn enjoyed teaching school, wintering in Sarasota, Fla., and camping. Her most memorable times were with her family. Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Carl McConnell of Lubec; four children, Kevin McConnell and his wife, Juli, of Veazie, Gregory McConnell and his wife, Debbie, of Lubec, and her twin sons, Michael and Mitchell McConnell, both of Lubec; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and special friends. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Lamson Cemetery, Lubec.
