HARPSWELL – Carolyn Jane (Fountain) Reneau, 72, of 27 Lower Rich Cove Road, Harpswell, died June 12, 2007, at her home, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born July 7, 1934, in Old Town, the daughter of Effie Whiting Fountain McLean Libby and Raymond Fountain. She moved to the Harpswell/Cundy’s Harbor region in 1946 and attended Cranberry Horn Elementary School. During that time, she made local history, being the only girl on the boys Great Island baseball team, a feat remembered by more than a few. She was a 1952 graduate of Brunswick High School. Carolyn married Henry Joseph Reneau in 1952. They had one son, Nicholas Lee Reneau, who now lives in Leesburg, Ga. The couple later divorced. Carolyn trained at the CMGH to be a radiologic technologist, graduating in 1956 and successfully completed the national examination sponsored by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. She made a career in that field for 45 years, working in the Boston area and in the Pomona, Calif., region and most recently, in Waltham, Mass. She retired from the Deaconess Waltham Hospital in 1998 and returned to Harpswell to live in 2003. She was predeceased by her mother, Effie Libby; her father, Raymond Fountain; a sister, Ruth-Ann Morrill; and a second sister, Clarice Darling. Survivors include her lifelong partner, Helen Page; her son, Nicholas; two grandsons, Nich-olas Jr. of Los Angeles and Ralph Raymond of Boca Raton, Fla.; a sister, Gail Murphy of Harpswell; a brother Arvard Fountain of Fort Myers, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. July 7, at Harpswell by the Sea with the Rev. Gordon H. Cook Jr. officiating. A reception will be after. Memorial donations may be made to Chanz-Hospice Unit, 60 Bari-beau Dr., Brunswick, ME 04011. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
