NEW LIMERICK – John Frederick “Fred” Doescher, 84, passed away June 13, 2007, after a lengthy illness. He was born May 20, 1923, in Houlton, the son of Wilfred and Eleanor (Clarke) Doescher. Fred graduated from Houlton High School and attended the University of Maine at Orono prior to joining the U.S. Air Force, where he served in England. Upon returning from the service, he married Virginia Clay and they spent more than 60 years together. Fred will be remembered for the Rod & Gun Shop that he owned for many years. He was an active member in the First Congregational Church, the Lions and Dux Clubs, as well as a longtime member of the SAD 29 School Board. Fred loved to travel both here and abroad. He and Ginny summered at Drew’s Lake and spent the last 17 years at their winter home in Estero, Fla. Fred loved hunting, fishing and gardening. Fred is survived by his wife, Virginia; three daughters, Anne Doescher of Bangor, Nancy Bennett of Topsham and Debbie Dubois and her husband, David, of Hollis; one son, Brian Doescher of New Limerick; grandchildren, Tiffany and Kristen Doescher, Darren and Cody Bennett, Ryan Doescher, Kimberly, Samantha and Jessica Dubois; one sister, Lois Atkins and her husband, Marv, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Lauri Doescher of New Limerick; his toy poodle, Holly, who he always referred to as “my little girl”; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, John Frederick “Jay”; and two sisters, Marietta Maxey and Janice Proulx. A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Dunn Funeral Home.
