DOVER-FOXCROFT – Casimir Frasz, 97, died Nov. 27, 2004, after a brief illness. He was born March 4, 1907, in Chicago, the son of Ignatius Frasz and Anna Tojza, of families which had migrated to Chicago from the coal mining towns of Pennsylvania. He attended local schools and later graduated from DePaul University Law School in Chicago. He lived in Dover-Foxcroft since 1988 after moving from Illinois with his wife, Mildred Frasz, to be with the family in Maine. During World War II, he received a presidential commendation for his volunteer work as chairman of the Chicago Regional Ration Board. He was also a civil defense air raid block captain. After private practice of law in the Chicago area, he became manager and later president of a neighborhood savings bank. He had been a member of B.P.O. Elks, Lions International and Sigma Delta Kappa legal fraternity. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Dover-Foxcroft and an active member of the YMCA, attending senior exercise classes until a few weeks before his death. Unaccustomed to life in a small town, the warmth of the community won him over and in his later years, he took the opportunity to stop and chat with just about everyone, whether he knew them or not. He was well known around town for his sense of humor and enthusiasm for life. He was the last of four brothers and one sister. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred in 2001. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David P. Frasz and Dr. Lesley Fernow of Dover-Foxcroft; and grandchildren, Alexis, Dana and David K. Frasz; also sisters-in-law, Marie Frasz of Geneva, Ill. and Anne Frasz of Forest Grove, Ore.; nieces and nephews. Reception for family and friends will be held 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the YMCA, Park Street, Dover-Foxcroft. A memorial mass followed by fellowship with family and friends will also be celebrated 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, High Street, Dover-Foxcroft. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in his memory may be made to the Piscataquis Regional YMCA.
