VERONA ISLAND – Catharine E. Gomm, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, with her loving family by her side at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Island Falls, a daughter of Clyde and Beatrice (Gray) Nightingale. Catharine loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed her time at her camp on Williams Pond and when not at the camp, she love to go camping. She was known for baking pies for the Women’s Club and worked many elections at the polls on Verona Island. In addition to her parents, Catharine was predeceased by her husband, Ledger F. Gomm; one son, Paul Gomm; a son-in-law, Neal Dow; two brothers, Leroy and Leslie Nightingale; and one sister, Louise Hanscom. Catharine is survived by her children, Paulette Dow of Bucksport, Mark Gomm and wife, Marion, of Prospect, Chris Gomm of Prospect, Joel Gomm and wife, Rose, of Verona Island and Scott Gomm and partner, Dianne O’Brien, of Verona Island; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Althea Coleman of Verona Island and Dawn Ladd of New Hampshire; and two brothers, Clyde Night-ingale of Boothbay and Rodney Nightingale of New York. Family and friends will gather for visitation 11 a.m. until the time of service 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in the spring.
