NEWBURGH – Catherine Marguerite Hollis, 87, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior, March 11, 2005, while at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Aug. 15, 1917, and was the daughter of Charles and Annie (Dillingham) Hollis. Catherine was a hard worker her whole life, having worked for shoe manufacturing companies and at the Ward’s Home in Newburgh for many years. She was a true Christian lady, always gracious and kind and the epitome of what a lady should be. Catherine had a wonderful life and enjoyed reading, especially her Bible, music, especially old hymns and watching old movies. Catherine was a longtime member of the Ellingwood Corner United Methodist Church and had also attended the West Hampden Baptist Church. She is survived by one brother, Raymond Bean and his wife, Dolores, of Mississippi; one sister, Frances Brown of Bowdoinham; cousins, Norris Leavitt and Christine Newcomb, both of Bangor; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Julia Coombs, Myrtle Spiess, Debra Calderwood; and special friend and niece, Lois E. Libby. She was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Thibodeau and Ruth Killam. A graveside memorial service will be held in the springtime at Knowlton Cemetery, Newburgh at a date and time to be announced. Catherine’s family would like to thank the staff at Ross Manor for the wonderful care that was given to her, especially from Sue Hoffman.
