GUILFORD – Catherine M. Slawski, 83, of Riverbend Homes in Guilford, died March 25, 2004, at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born March 21, 1921, in Penacook, N.H., to William and Evangeline Gailey. She graduated from New Hampshire State Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. Catherine served her country overseas as an Army nurse during World War II. There she met her beloved husband, First Sergeant Thaddeus Slawski. After the war, they settled in Brooklyn, N.Y., where they raised three children, Ted, Danielle and John. Catherine worked in various hospitals in New York City, including Beth Israel. Upon retirement the couple moved to Penacook, where Catherine lived until the death of her husband. She moved to Riverbend Homes and greatly enjoyed getting together with the “girls.” Her faith in the Lord sustained her through her last illness. Catherine spent most of her life caring for people and she will be greatly missed by her children, Ted Slawski and his wife, DiDi, of Amherst, Mass., Danielle Gioia and her husband, Joseph, of Guilford, and John Slawski and his wife, Sarah, of Penacook. She leaves behind grandchildren, Jody, Sarah, Tom, Dan, Ben Matt, Billy and Brendan; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah. At her request there will be no visiting hours. Private graveside services will be held in Penacook at a later date. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford. <>
