PLEASANT POINT, PERRY – Catherine Mary Nicholas, 63, passed away Nov. 23, 2003, at a Bangor hospital surrounded by her family. She was born June 24, 1940, at Pleasant Point, Perry, the daughter of J. Hartley and Eileen Nicholas. She attended Saint Ann’s Grammar School and graduated from Hartford High School in Connecticut in 1958. In the early 1960s Kay was a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire Dance Studios. Kay was a secretary for a doctor’s office for many years. She became a Sister of Charity for several years where she ministered to the poor in England and Rome as a member of Mother Theresa’s Order. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Beatrice Rafferty School and at the Pleasant Point Health Center. Kay cared for her parents prior to their deaths. She is survived by her adopted son, Serge Newell; one sister, Diane Clement; one brother, Anthony Nicholas; several nieces and nephews of Pleasant Point. She was predeceased by her parents and three sisters. Friends may call at her residence Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Pleasant Point with Rev. Eugene Gaffey, celebrant. Interment will be in the Passamaquoddy Tribal Cemetery.
