OLD TOWN – Charles E. King, 79, passed away peacefully Dec. 20, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. Charlie was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Old Town, the son of Wilfred and Sadie (Codyer) King. He was a businessman in Old Town for more than 40 years, running two successful companies, Burnham Drug and King’s Korner. Charlie was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, VFW, Am-erican Legion, Maine Pharmacy Association and Holy Family Parish. He loved to bowl every Thursday night at the KC League. Charlie also was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Belleau Wood. He enjoyed traveling to all parts of the world, just recently returning home from a weeklong cruise honoring his Navy ship. His camp on Cold Stream Pond was a place where he loved to spend the summer days with his family. He was predeceased by his wives, Margaret (Abbott) and Ruth (Lovett); and his brother, Emmett. Charlie is survived by a son, Wayne King and his wife, Beverly, of Old Town; daughters, Mary Jo King of Old Town and Karen (King) Gaetani and her husband, David, of Auburn; four grandchildren, Casey King and his wife, Amanda, Meghan King and her fiance, Chris McDonald, all of Howland, Garrett and Gina Gaetani, both of Auburn; sisters-in-laws, Mary Ellen Schultz, Carolyn Culumovic, Helen Abbott, all of Orrington, Joan Mayo and her husband, John, of Enfield, Conn.; special nieces and nephews; stepdaughters, Rob-erta Kennedy and her family of Harrington, Vicki Wilcox and her family of Old Town; and a special friend, Rita Levasseur and her family of Old Town. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at Holy Family Parish, Old Town. Interment will be at a later date. Charlie’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring and compassionate staff of Eastern Maine Medical Centers 5th floor Intensive Care Unit and Grant 6.
