BELGRADE – Charles H. Boterf Jr., 79, died March 23, 1908, in Farm-ington. He was born in Buck-sport, son of Charles and Marguerite (Davis) Boterf. He graduated from Bucksport High in 1946 and then served in the Korean War. He attended Husson College and earned his bachelor’s degree in business education. He received his master’s degree in geography from University of Maine – Farmington. From 1952 into the 1970s, Charlie taught in Milo, LaGrange and Waterville high schools. He was instrumental in building the Waldo Regional Vocational School, Belfast, and was principal there for 10 years. He later worked for Maine Department of Education and was clerk of the works for several building projects. Charlie operated Great Pond Mail Boat, and he and his wife owned a grocery store in Naples. He spent more than 20 winters in Lakeland, Fla. He was a found-ing member and first president of Belgrade Lions Club and a selectman for the town of Belgrade. He was a member of Messalonskee Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Retha Booker Boterf. Surviving are two daughters, Tonia Boterf and husband, George Macdonald, and Taffy Davis and husband, Byron; and three grandchildren, Meagan Breau, Benjamin and Abigale Davis.
