SEARSPORT – Charles Monroe Landmesser, 88, of Searsport, passed July 27, 2005. He was married to his loving wife, Jessie Jeffers Landmesser for 59 years. Born June 24, 1917, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of Charles F. and Jane C. Landmesser. He resided in Short Hills, N.J., until his years at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., graduating in 1939, then attended Cornell Medical College in New York City, graduating in 1942. He served his residency in anesthesia at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and then became a member of the staff at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany, N.Y., where he served for 30 years, was active in clinical work, research and teaching, authorizing several scientific papers relating to anesthesia. From 1956-79, he was a professor in the Anesthesia Department, chairman of that department from 1956-1968, and became professor emeritus upon retirement. He was past president of the New York State Society of Anesthesiology, Fellow of the American College of Anesthesiology, and a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He was also a member of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, the Albany County Medical Society, the Medical Society of New York State, and the American Medical Association. After retirement in 1979, he resided in Lake George, New York and Searsport, moving to Maine permanently in 1987. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and a daughter, John and wife, Mary-Ann of North Wales, Pa., Charles and wife, Holly, of Eagle River, Alaska, William and wife, Shirley, of Stockton Springs; and one daughter, Jane Landmesser Mahan and husband, John, of Delmar, N.Y. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Timothy, Kirsten, Chase, Martha, and Abigail Landmesser, and Michael and Bryan Mahan; and three great-grandchildren, Jake, Juleana and Lyndsea Landmesser. He had a lifelong fondness for Penobscot Bay, where he enjoyed rowing and sailing. He was a member of the Alden Ocean Shell Association and the Searsport Yacht Club. Funeral arrangements provided by Young Funeral Home in Searsport. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at the First Congregational Church, Searsport. Private family interment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery, Searsport.
