HARTLAND – Charles P. Wietzke, 79, a longtime resident of Pittsfield Avenue, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a short illness. Charlie was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wis., a son of Philip and Annette (Schoen) Wietzke. He graduated from Milwaukee High School in 1946. He married Edith May in 1948, and served as master chief for 30 years in the U.S. Navy until his retirement in 1975, and remained an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was also employed as the jail administrator for 16 years at the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Skowhegan. Charlie was an active member of the Corinthian Lodge No. 95 AF & AM, Hartland, where he served in many capacities. He belonged to the Kora Temple Shriners, Lewiston, and was a member of the Grand Commandery of Maine. He attended Grace-Linn United Memorial Methodist Church, Hartland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening. He loved spending time with his six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; and two sons, Dale Wietzke of California and Douglas Wietzke of Maryland. He was predeceased by a daughter, Rosalie Collins; his two sisters, Marcella and Katie; and his brother, Armin. Visiting hours will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Pine Grove Cemetery. Hartland, with the Rev. Ellen Bridges officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
