BANGOR – Chester H. Barnes Sr., 57, died Wednesday morning, July 23, 2008, at Central Maine Medical Center after a long illness. He was born Aug. 8, 1950, in Montpelier, Vt., the son of Wesley and Salome (Cabance) Barnes. He grew up in Cambridge, Mass., and attended schools in Stoneham, Mass. He was a graduate of Stoneham Academy. After his schooling, he married, started a family, moved to Woodville, Mass., and later to Bangor. Until his disability, he was employed by the former Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, and was also employed as a professional carpenter. Survivors include four sons, Roy, Wesley, Mark and Eric; two daughters, Bridget and Leah; four brothers, George, Ray, John and Michial; and one sister, Sally. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Alexis, Michael, Zander and Tyson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Chester H. Barnes Jr.; and one daughter, Lisa-Marie. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, July 27, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Pastor Arnold Schnell, pastor of Seventh-Day Adventist Church, officiating. Interment will be held noon Monday, July 28, at Grindstone Cemetery, Grindstone Road, Medway. Gifts in his memory may be made to Healthcare Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
