CARMEL – Chief Petty Officer Merle “Chief” “Moose” C. Washburn, 76, died peacefully Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Dec. 7, 1931, in Reed Plantation, the son of Calvin L. and Lois (Kitchen) Washburn. Merle served his country in the U.S. Navy throughout his life and later retired. He enjoyed sports of any kind, as well as walking and talking in the local malls with his best friend and buddy, Paul Constantine, and many other friends. He is survived by his two sons, Donald Washburn of Bangor and Alan Washburn; a brother, Dean Washburn and his wife, Donna, of Carmel; nieces, Nikki and Vicki; half nieces, Tracy and Tiffany; half nephews, Dana and Morris; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
