MARS HILL – Clarence E. Mahan, 87, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at the Mars Hill Nursing Home. He was born July 22, 1919, in Blaine, the son of James Sr. and Susan (Gillespie) Mahan. Clarence was a graduate of the Aroostook Central Institute, Mars Hill and then farmed for 35 years. He loved to fish with his dog, Rusty, in his spare time. Clarence was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mars Hill. He is survived by his wife, Marie Ann Mahan of Mars Hill; a son, Jeffery of Mars Hill; daughter, Susan Vreeland and her husband, Jeff, of Herndon, Va.; grandchildren, Patrick Irvine and Justin Vreeland; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Charisma Irvine; a brother, Louis Mahan and his wife, Anne, of Mars Hill; sister, Pauline Dahlgren of Blaine, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Clarence was predeceased by two brothers, Malcolm and James Jr. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. Interment will take place after the service at Pierce Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill.
