CASWELL and CARIBOU – Claude J. Berube, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at a Caribou nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born June 29, 1917, at Caswell, the son of Charles V. and Julia Berube. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific in several locations including Guadalcanal and the Philippines. Claude was a communicant of the St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone, was a member of the American Legion, Obar-Phair Post No. 27, Limestone and the VFW Lister-Knowlton Post No. 9389, Caribou, and had been employed by Pratt & Whitney of Connecticut for several years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Berube was predeceased by three brothers, Eddie, Val and Arthur Berube; three sisters, Edna Brayton, Mamie Barnes and Ora Hurd. He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Emery and Dorothy Berube of Broad Brook, Conn.; two sisters, Elaine Sauro of Statesville, R.I., Sr. Charlyne Berube of Fort Wayne, Ind.; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a Memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. by the officers of the VFW Lister-Knowlton Post No. 9389, Caribou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hamlin, with the Rev. Andre Gosslin Celebrant. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, immediately following the interment service. Relatives and friends who choose may contribute in memory of Mr. Berube to the Jefferson Cary Foundation, P.O. Box 89, Caribou, 04736-9902. Envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
