BELFAST – Clayton A. Thomas, 83, of Belfast, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in Belfast. He was born April 25, 1921, in Belfast the son of Alton and Luella (Elwell) Thomas. His life was long and eventful. He was a traveler and faced many of life’s battles with remarkable strength and courage. He was a man of integrity, determination and genuine compassion for his fellow man. He was a Master Mason at Belfast Lodge No. 24 and recently received recognition for his 50 years of membership. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Clayton worked as an oil delivery driver, then as a bookkeeper for local businesses. He enjoyed gardening and hunting. For many years he spent the winter months in Florida with his wife of 68 years. His love for his family was his reason for living. Clayton will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Phinney) Thomas; two sons, Leroy and his companion, Mary, and Donald and his wife, Elaine; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Thelma of Auburn, and his nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Clayton was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers, Reginald, Alfred, Ralph and Winston; his sisters, Mildred, Frances, Ruth, Marian, and Grace. Visiting hours with a Masonic Service will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. Those who wish may send flowers or give to the charity of their choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
