JONESPORT – Clifford F. “Baldy” Johnson Sr., 86, passed away Feb. 16, 2005, at Sunrise Care Facility in Jonesport after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 8, 1919, one of 11 children, in Marshfield, the son of the late Percy and Edith (Gardner) Johnson. Baldy worked in construction earlier in life. He and his wife opened a lumber company in Jonesport. He also worked doing maintenance at Sunrise Care Facility and also as a custodian at Jonesport Elementary school. He attended Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church and was a member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters Local Union No. 1996. Baldy was an extremely giving person. He would always carry a bag of candy with him. No matter where he was or who he met, he would distribute the candy, whether it was to children at the school or residents at Sunrise. He was known as the “Candyman”. He is survived by three daughters, Karleen Dorey and fiance’, James Hart, of Levant, Elaine Brown and husband, Dwayne, and Vicki-lee Johnson and fiance’, Charles Huntley, all of Jonesport; a son, Clifford Johnson, Jr. and wife, Jane, of Jonesport; daughter-in-law, Laureta Johnson of Jonesport; special grandson, Shawn Johnson Sr. and wife, Marie, and their son, Shawn Jr. of Jonesport; grandchildren, Karl, Clifford, Karlene “Connie”, Michael, Elmer, Milton, Lacee, Vondell, and Clifford III and all of their spouses.; 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Byron Carver of Jonesport, and Willard Carver and wife, Greta, of Kennebec; many nieces and nephews; and many friends, including Gladys Merritt of Orono. He was predeceased by his wife, Minnie (Carver) Johnson in 1999; and sons, Milton Johnson in 2002 and Richard Johnson in 2004. The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the dedicated care and loved provided by the staff of Sunrise Care Facility. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church in Jonesport. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at the church officiated by Pastor George Woodward. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
