VASS, N.C. – Colonel Philip Eugene Babb (Ret), died unexpectedly Nov. 19, 2004. Phil was born July 13, 1926 in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Charles Emory and Alma Francis Cooper Babb. He was a combat veteran of World War II and served for more than 30 years in the Maine National Guard and Army Reserves. He retired in 1990 from the U.S. Customs Service. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Viola Theresa Phillips Babb; a sister, Patricia Gates of Orono; four children, Geoff Babb and wife, Melissa, of Lansing, Kan., Cynthia Anderson and husband, Peter, of Lawrence Station, N.B., Canada, Rod Babb, currently residing in Germany, and Lea Howard and husband, Charles, of Woodlake, N.C.; and five grandchildren. Phil was devoted to his family, his community, and his country. A memorial service and burial are planned for the summer of 2005 in Calais.
