NEWPORT – Craig R. Leavitt, 49, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 4, 2005, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was born April 18, 1956, in Merced, Calif., the son of Vernard Leavitt and Donna (Burgess) York. He attended and graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield. He spent most of his life as a chef and he was currently employed at Irving’s Restaurant in Newport. He enjoyed traveling and he lived in Hawaii and Alaska, before returning home to Maine. Craig was a loving and giving person who was very involved with him family, he enjoyed caring for his great-nieces and great-nephews and going camping. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his father, Vernard Leavitt of Lincoln; a grandmother, Marie Leavitt of Lincoln; two brothers, Brian Leavitt of Pittsfield, Joe Leavitt of Fall River, Mass.; four sisters, Vicki Ervin and her husband, Dale, of Springfield, Mich., Karen Brown and her husband, David, of Amarillo, Texas, Lucretia Robichaud of Old Orchard, Jaime Cavanaugh and her husband, Andrew, of Attleboro, Mass.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and step-father, Donna and Dennis York; two brothers, Vernard Leavitt Jr. and Philip Leavitt; and one sister, Lori Bates. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, and from 12 p.m. Aug. 8, 2005, until the time of service at 1 p.m. at Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
