ORONO – Dale A. Wilbur, 71, passed away March 5, 2008, in Orono. He was born Sept. 10, 1936, in Frank-fort, the son of Vernerd E. and Dorothy (Patterson) Wilbur. Dale attended schools in Frankfort and Winterport and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955. After his military service in 1958, he went to work for Firestone Tire Co., at Cutler Naval Air Station. During his working career with Firestone Tire Co., he worked throughout the world as a tire specialist. His work, lead him to Youngstown, Ohio, to work on the interstate highway system, Sharpsville, Pa., for the railroad to West Pakistan, to build an earth dam and Bangkok, Thailand and Bluefield W.V., working on strip mines. He retired from Firestone Tire Co. Dale was an avid NASCAR fan. He is survived by two daughters, Vernor Wilbur and her son, Tyler, of Wolf Creek, Va., and Judy York of Rocky Gap, Va.; brothers, Dennis of Prospect and Dalton of Frankfort; and a sister, Judy McGarwan of Ortley Beach, N.J. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery, Monroe. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral and Cremation Services, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
