THORNDIKE – Dale J. McCormick, 71, passed away Monday, July 23, 2007, at MaineGeneral Medical Center – Thayer Campus, Waterville, of lung cancer. He was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Unity, the son of the late Alton and Sylvina (Curtis) McCormick. Dale graduated from Unity High School, Class of 1954, where he was an outstanding baseball and basketball player. He played semi-professional baseball for the Belfast Merchants and Pittsfield Jaycees. Dale was employed in the family’s business, McCormick’s Gulf, before entering the Game Warden Service as an assistant game warden. Later, he was employed as a deputy for the Waldo County Sheriff Department, followed by 20 years of service with Webber Oil. He retired from Maine X-Ray in 1993. He served on the board of directors of MSAD 3 and was an honorary member of Unity Fire Department. He was also a member of the Order of the Odd Fellows. Dale enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping, bowling, golfing and playing the clarinet. He was an avid Red Sox fan. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Isabelle Clark; and brothers, Alton McCormick Jr. and Albert McCormick. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Marie (Tupper) McCormick; a daughter, Maureen Boulier of Unity; and a dear friend, Kevin Sands of Bangor; grandson, Kory Boulier; a sister, Eleanor Ward, both of Unity; brothers, Fredric McCormick and wife, Betty, of Houlton, and Maynard McCormick of Newport. He leaves behind several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Pond Cemetery, Unity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dale’s memory to Future MSAD 3, P.O. Box 151, Unity, ME 04988.
