WINDHAM – Daniel V. Madore, 54, died April 19, 2005, at a Portland hospital. He was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Presque Isle, the son of Joseph and Lydia (Thibodeau) Madore. He was a man who loved life and believed in hard work. Dan retired from his own business and moved back to Maine from Albuquerque, N.M., to build his wife, Sherry, a beautiful log home on Madore Mountain in Windham. With the help of Sherry and his stepson, Jody, a lovely log home was constructed. It was his retirement project and as he called it, “our own little paradise.” Dan was a man of adventure, at the age of 17, he left Presque Isle to go and see what was on the other side of the mountain and beyond. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later settled in Albuquerque to raise a family of three. His favorite saying was “I never wanted to look back and say I wish I had.” Dan did so much for everyone around him. He will be sadly missed by numerous family members and friends. Dan and Sherry went to high school together and after 40 years they were reunited, married and led a Cinderella and Prince Charming life together. Surviving him in addition to his wife, Sharon “Sherry” (Bartley) Madore of Windham are two sons, Jimmy Madore of Albuquerque, N.M. and David Scott Madore and his wife, Tammy of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Desiree Madore of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepson, Jody Rose and his wife, Shannon of Falmouth; grandchildren, Joshua, Austin, Aarron and Blythe; stepgrandchildren, Jordan and Avery Rose; brothers, Tony “Glenn” Madore and his wife, Linda, of Westbrook, Gaylon “Butch” Madore and his wife, Louise of New Mexico and Ron Madore and his wife, Claudia, of Mapleton; a sister, Barbara Sommers and her husband, Tom of California and a special friend who was like a son, George Trujillo of Albuquerque, N.M. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lauree Madore. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. A reception will follow in the reception area of the funeral home. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. In lieu of flowers, because of his love for children, gifts in his memory may be made to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, in support of Pediatric Cardiac Care, Attn: Development Office, 22 Bramhall St., Portland, ME 04102.
