ORONO – Daphne McKee Matthews, 64, passed away at Orono Commons. She was born Oct. 28, 1942, in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England, the daughter of Ronald and Elsie (Land) McKee. Daphne was a longtime faithful member of the Orono United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her participation in the Prayer Shawl Ministry, how she would recite bible verses, and her involvement with many activities within the church. Daphne loved animals, people, and enjoyed conversations with her friends she would meet at Pat’s Pizza. In addition to her mother of England, she is survived by her husband of 35 years, Thomas H. Matthews; brothers, Ronald Jack McKee and wife, Carol, and their son, Paul, of Averill Park, N.Y., and Bill F. McKee of England; and her godmother, Margaret Weiss. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her godfather, Paul Weiss. A celebration of life will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Orono United Methodist Church, 36 Oak St., Orono, with Rev. David Grainger officiating.
