ORANGE CITY, Fla. and BANGOR – David A. Barker Sr., 58, a resident of Orange City, Fla. since 1998, died June 20, 2004, at his home in Florida. He was born May 26, 1946, in Lubec, the son of Harry and Marilyn (Campbell) Barker. David was an auto mechanic and enjoyed restoring antique cars and was a NASCAR racing enthusiast. He was a U.S. Army war hero during Vietnam and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, Army Commendation “V” device, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. David was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 1761 of Bangor and the American Legion of Lubec. Surviving are his beloved wife of 30 years, Evelyn Barker of Orange City, Fla.; four sons, David A. Barker Jr., Larry Barker, both of Machias, Shane Barker of Pittsfield, Kevin Barker of West Monroe, N.Y.; one daughter, Kimberly Barker of Amesbury, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Bruce Overs of New Jersey, Mark Overs of Florida and Dennis Barker of Maine; four sisters, Nancy (Overs) Scallatino of Florida, Susan (Overs) Bennett of New Jersey, Judy Stevens of Maine and Kathryn Barker of Washington; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor; where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of Advent Christian Church of Bangor, officiating. Interment with military honors will be held in Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn.
