WINN – David C. Priest, 92, went to be with his beloved Lillian, with whom he shared 65 years of devotion, Sept. 5, 2005, at his home. He was born June 6, 1913, in Burlington, the son of Lester Raymond Priest and Caroline Elizabeth (Gillespie) Priest. David was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action while in Italy. He worked as a trapper, a guide and was a warden supervisor with the Maine Warden Service. Whenever Governor Baxter visited Baxter State Park, David was his guide. He was the subject of a book by William Warner entitled “An Honest Woodsman.” He was an avid Red Sox fan. When he was a young child, the Red Sox were World Series winners and he lived long enough to see them win again in 2004. He is survived by two sons, David C. Priest Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Milford and Ronald L. Priest and his wife, Cynthia, of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Amanda Benoit of Saco, Kate Hutchins of Bangor and their mother, Roberta Priest, Aaron Priest of Lee and Benjamin Priest of Lincoln; a sister, Virginia Watson of Florida; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Heather and April; and two sisters, Marion Chandler and Janette Hamilton. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln, with the Rev. Keith Cushman and the Rev. Glenn Speed officiating. Interment will be in South Winn Cemetery. There will be a gathering at Maranatha Riverside Church, Access Road, Lincoln after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to either the Relief Fund of the Maine Warden Service Association or the Benevolent Fund at Maranatha Riverside Church.
