MILLINOCKET – David E. Fortine, 77, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born Dec. 2, 1929, in East Millinocket, the son of Fred and Laura (Michau) Fortine. David proudly served his country all over the world and fought in the Korean Theater. He retired from the U.S. Air Force, E.O.D. Unit, after more than 20 years of service. David was an accomplished woodworker and loved making things for friends and family. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Ozier and her husband, Ed, Laura Gonce and her husband, Greg, and Vincie Giles and her husband, Stan; his companion, Frances Bishop; a sister, Edith Pelkey; a brother, Freddie King; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Edna (Wheelwright) Fortine; a brother, Roy; and a sister, Jessie Fortine. In accordance with David’s wishes, after cremation, graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at East Millinocket Cemetery. Military honors will be held after.
