MONTVILLE – David G. Hughes, 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at his residence. He was born Sept. 1, 1932, in Manistique, Mich., son of Gordon W. and Katherine (Kendall) Hughes. Before teaching German, anthropology and world history for 22 years at Mount View High School, his work with CARE and the Seamen’s Service, as well as an unceasing curiosity about the world, took him to Germany, Libya, the Philippines and Hong Kong. He was predeceased by his parents. David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith Bayard Hughes of Montville; children, Alexander Kendall Hughes and wife, Brenda, Robin Bayard Hughes, Heather Lockwood Hughes and Erin Bonner Hughes; sisters, Katherine Williams and Sally Laurion and husband, Clem, and Janet Teel and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Andrew David Hughes, Emily Elizabeth Hughes and Matthew Alexander Hughes; a great many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Blarney. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Freedom Congregational Church, Freedom. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
