BREWER – David G. Perkins Sergeant First Class E7 retired, 67, died Jan. 5, 2005, at a Bangor hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 28, 1937, in Braintree, Mass., the son of Damon and Francis (Harriman) Perkins. David was a devoted husband to Imogene, and his family. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years before enlisting in the U.S. Army. David served two tours in Vietnam and earned, National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Serviced Medal w/4 Bronze stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Air Medal; Bronze Star Medal; Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze, three Loops; Expert (Rifle). He retired from the Army after 20 years of service and worked as a State of Maine Correctional Officer also for 20 years. David was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and the John F. Kennedy Post No. 6 of Brewer. He enjoyed his home, gardens, his HO model train, and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Imogene Perkins of Brewer; four sons, David Perkins and his wife, Laurie, Joey, Michael, and Albert Jewell and his wife, Linda, all of Texas; two daughters, Lisa Perkins of Texas and Wanda Jewell and her husband, Bill Crouch, of Glenburn; eight grandchildren; two brothers, John Perkins, and Neil Perkins and his wife, Barbara; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. John Austin, associate pastor of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
