MADISON – David L. Paine, 67, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the Maine General Medical Center Thayer Unit in Waterville. His passing was due to complications of a long battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 18, 1936, in North Anson, the son of Ruth Paine. He attended schools in Embden and Solon before moving to Southwest Harbor to live with his foster parents Laurence and Jessica Getchell. He graduated from Pemetic High School in S.W. Harbor with the Class of 1954. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1957. Dave worked seven years as a Merchant Marine for American Export Lines. While on the ship the USS Exeter in 1963, he met his wife Pat and they were married in 1964. He lived in Massachusetts until 1973, when he moved back to Maine to work for Madison Paper until 1975. He finished his career at Scott Paper Co. S.D.Warren at Hinckley, working from 1976-1991 retiring at age 55. Dave’s passionate hobby was sailing. He loved to be out on the Ocean with friends and family, and often went on cruises with friends during the summer. He also enjoyed taking care of his three places: the farm in Madison, the camp at Embden Lake, and the summer residence on Seawall Drive in Southwest Harbor. He also enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. Dave is survived by his wife, Patricia Paine of Madison; a daughter, Jessica Reed and her husband, Robert, of Hampstead, N.H., their four children, Rebecca, Joshua, Seth and Paige; and a son, Mark Paine and his wife, Wendy, of China, and their two children, Conner and Courtney. He will be sadly missed by family and many close friends. A service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the First Congregational Church in North Anson, with Rev. Arthur Rudman officiating, there will also be a service held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Manset Union Church in Southwest Harbor. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the 1st Congregational Church Building Fund, North Anson, ME 04958. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.
