FLORIDA – David R. Bennett, 64, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at the Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born Nov. 20, 1940, in New Haven, Conn. Mr. Bennett lived all over New England and was a graduate of Springfield College. He dedicated his life to community service and was the director the Seacoast United Way, American Diabetes Association and the Professional Boy Scouts of America and the American Heart Association. He and his wife owned and operated the Balson Cove Campground for several years. He was very active in the Catholic church with the Knights of Columbus, as a lector and altar server. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Florida. Family members include his wife of 42 years, Catherine A. (Wildman) Bennett, of Florida; two sons, Paul A. Bennett of Exeter, and Mark A. Bennett of Norcross, Ga.; two daughters, Michelle A. Bennett of Ells-worth, and Gail R. Bennett of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren; one brother, Bill Downs of Connecticut; two sisters, Alice Ochs of Shelton, Conn., and Marylou Pavao of Wallington, Conn.; many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated noon Thursday at St. Michael’s Church, Front Street, Exeter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. Burial will be private. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.
