WINSLOW and SHERMAN – Winfred Frank “Peanut” Irish, 81, died June 19, 2005, at Waterville. He was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Sherman, the son of Francis and Amelia (Lander) Irish. Peanut served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the South Pacific. He liked to hunt, fish, and go camping with his family and friends. He retired from bridge construction but had worked many other jobs during his lifetime. He worked in the woods and on farms in the Sherman and Oakfield areas and the cotton mill in Augusta. He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Phillips) (Allen) Irish of Winslow; a son, Bennie and his wife, Laura, of Winthrop; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Duc, of Sanford and another son, Peter and his wife, Shirley, of Sidney; several grandchildren; stepchildren and their families; and great-grandchildren; three sisters and their husbands, Audrey and Raymond Darke of Hermon, Nina and Charles Dwyer of Farmingdale and Alta and Ronald Durgin of Coventery, Conn. and Hudson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Vera (Dwyer); a son, Larry; his parents; eight brothers and one sister, Frances, John, Bill, Vaughn, Morris, Alfred, Leon, Charles and Alvin A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Island Falls Cemetery, with the Rev.
