DAVID W. WARREN ROCKLAND – David W. Warren Jr., 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Penobscot Bay Medical, Rock-port, after an extended illness. Born Oct. 3, 1919, in Mansfield, Mass., he was one of four children of David W. and Flora A. Patterson Warren Sr. He attended Mansfield public schools and after moving to Islesboro, as a youth attended schools on that Island. In 1937, he graduated from Islesboro High School. That fall, he began studies at the University of Maine, earning a bachelor’s of arts in romance languages. Having already been active in a Naval Cadet program while at the University of Maine, after graduating in 1941, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving throughout World War II, primarily in the South Pacific, until being discharged in 1946. In 1946, he married Joy P. Elkington Heath in Florida. Returning from military duty, Lt. Warren began an accelerated course of study at Boston University School of Law, where in 1948 he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence. After returning to Maine, he resided in Camden a brief time before moving to Rockland, where he established a law practice. Following his wife’s death March 8, 1950, he moved with his children to Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. In Washington, he served as an attorney with the Federal Communications Commission, retiring in 1980. In 1958, he married Marie Fish. She died in 1966. On Aug. 24, 1968, he married Kay Gepfert in Washington, D.C. Following his retirement, Mr. Warren with his wife returned to Maine, residing in Rockport until moving to Rockland in 1997. He enjoyed reading and with his wife had taken many ocean cruises. His family said that Mr. Warren’s greatest enjoyment was his family. His son stated that Mr. Warren was a quiet man who never wanted to do things the easy way, but always did them the right way. He was a charter member of the Maine Seafood Festival, which was the predecessor of the Maine Lobster Festival. He was a past member of the Camden Lions Club, where he was a past King Lion, the Rockland Lodge of Elks, Islesboro Lodge of Masons and Lakeview Presbyterian Church, Rockport. In addition to his first two wives, Mr. Warren was predeceased by one son, David Wyman Warren III in 1976; one brother, Chapin Warren; two sisters, Enid Randlett and Doris Briggs. In addition to his wife, Kay of 35 years, Mr. Warren is survived by one son, Heath Elkington “Ted” Warren and his wife, Amy, of St. Inigoes, Md.; his step-daughter, Dianne Nolan of Virginia; four step-grandchildren, Christopher and Gregory Nolan, Aric and Adam Farmer; as well as several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Warren’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Lakeview Presbyterian Church, Route 17, Rockport. The Rev. Stephen Tracy will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Warren Family Lot, Rock Hill Cemetery, Foxboro, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Islesboro Historical Society, P.O. Box 301, Islesboro, ME 04848. Service arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
