LEWISTON and SHERMAN MILLS – Dean Arnold Durgan, 78, passed away peacefully Tues-day, Jan. 23, 2007, in his sleep after a long illness. He was born in Sherman Mills, the youngest of nine children, to Charles and Mary “Mame” (McNally) Durgan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed the great outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He was predeceased by his son, Geoffrey; and an infant son, Brent; his parents, Charles and Mame; brothers, Ted, Bill, Leo and Carl; and sisters, Lucy Sleeper, Bessie Goodine and Ethel Durgan. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy “Dot” Bouchard of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Gregory Durgan and his life companion, Jean, of Augusta; two daughters, Deanna Durgan of Orlando, Fla., and Danette Donaghy and her husband, Eddie, of Dover, Fla.; five grandchildren, Megan, Devon and Ryan Donaghy, all of Dover, Fla., Garth Durgan of Seffner, Fla., and Cammie Durgan of Orlando, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Dean leaves behind a lot of special people at both Beacon Hospice and Russell Park Rehab and Living Center, Lewiston, including residents/companions, Gerard Bisson and Ed Brown. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Sherman Mills Cemetery. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
