CHARLESTON – Dennis Michael Higgins, 50, died July 4, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 7, 1956, in Bangor, the son of Donald George and Victorine Della (Hansen) Higgins. Dennis graduated from Higgins Classical Institute and lives in Charleston throughout his life. He worked for Dexter Shoe Manufacturing, the State of Maine Department of Transportation and more recently, with C.A. Strout Construction, Bangor. In addition, Dennis was a former fire chief of the Charleston Volunteer Fire Department. He coached Farm League baseball, Little League baseball and YMCA basketball. Dennis was also a Tiger Cub, Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and NASCAR, but more then anything, he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson. In addition to his mother, Victorine of Guilford, he is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Marsha (Craig) Higgins of Charleston; a son, Joshua Higgins and his wife, Rebekah, of Gray; a grandson, Alexander Higgins of Gray; three sisters, Joyce Zimmerman and husband, Ralph, of Guilford, Patricia Miles and Gail Stevenson, both of Dover-Foxcroft. In addition to his father, Donald, he was predeceased by a brother, Gerald. Friends are invited to gather with the family 10-11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. with Pastor Richard Messana officiating. Those who wish are welcome to join the family at the Higgins residence in Charleston after the service. Interment will be private at Higgins Cemetery, Charleston.
