LEWISTON – Dennis S. Michaud, 92, formerly of 66 Howe St., Lewiston, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, after a short illness. He was the son of Salomon Michaud and Delina Gervais, he was born on July 20, 1911, in Fort Kent. On May 1, 1939, at St. Luce Roman Catholic Church in Frenchville, he married his beloved wife of 65 years, Candide Rose Corriveau. In Lewiston, the young couple soon began raising their seven sons. Dennis graduated from Fort Kent Training School and the Presque Isle Normal School. He taught school for many years in the communities of Wallagrass, Fort Kent and St Agatha. After settling in Lewiston to raise his family, Dennis worked with the Wiseman Farm Co., which then was bought by the H.P. Hood Co. and from which he retired after 30 years of service. He served as regional vicepresident of the Assumption Society for more than 10 years serving Maine and New Hampshire, a member and vicepresident of the Ligues des Societes Francaise, and a member of the Fourth Degree of the Lewiston Council of the Knights of Columbus. His proudest accomplishment was as founder and director of the State of Maine French Spelling Bee for more than 15 years. Dennis and his wife enjoyed the opportunity of touring several European countries, including their favorite city of Rome, the Marian shrines of Lourdes and Fatima. But the most memorable trip was spending time in the Holy Land. As a couple they spent their married life in Lewiston, Farmington, Cape Elizabeth, and 20 delightful winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. In addition to his wife, survivors include seven sons and their spouses, Stanley and his wife, Mary, of Montgomery, Ala., Leon and his wife, Ruth, of Bradenton, Fla., Bertrand and his wife, Jeannette, of Old Orchard Beach, Dennis Jr. and his wife, Doris, of Bangor, Donald and Carol of Danville, Ronald of Augusta, and Richard and his wife, Marilyn, of Scarborough; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and more than a hundred nephews and nieces. His funeral Mass will be celebrated 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston, with Father Frank Murray, a special family friend, as principal celebrant. Viewing hours will be at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine St., Lewiston, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Donations may be made in his memory to the Ss.
