BANGOR – Donald H. “Bud” Hathorn Jr., 81, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 27, 1925, the son of Donald H. and Ruth Hathorn. Donald attended Bangor schools, Old Lyme Military Academy and the University of Maine. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Most of his life was spent in the insurance field working for the Insurance Company of North America, now Cigna, in Bangor, Philadelphia, Pa. and Boston, Mass. Upon retiring, he returned to Bangor and became affiliated with Sargent, Tyler and West. He was a member of All Souls Congregational Church and a past deacon of Dane Street Congregational Church in Beverly, Mass. He was a member of St. Andrews Lodge No. 83 AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32nd degree, Anah Shriners, where he played in the band and Anah Arab Patrol. While in Massachusetts, he became a member of Aleppo Temple and was affiliated with the Fife and Drum Unit. His community service included Little League coach, Habitat for Humanity and “Heart to Heart.” He was an avid golfer and loved fishing. Often he would be out on the lake at Lucerne at five o’clock in the morning with his radio and his fishing pole. Don is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Hope; a daughter, Constance Travers and her husband, Donald, of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Donald Hathorn III and his wife, Barbara, of Scarborough; grandchildren, Matthew and Kimberly Travers of Tucson, Ariz.; and Donald IV and Heather Hathorn of Scarborough; sister, Ellen Files and her husband, Richard, of Cumberland Foreside; and brother-in-law, Richard Redman and his wife, Anita, of Fort Pierce, Fla. A private celebration of his life will be held with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher, officiating.
