CARIBOU and KITTERY Donald H. “Ike” Tompkins, 79, husband of the late Clarabelle (Boulier) Tomp-kins, died March 26, 2007, at a Caribou health care facility. He was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Presque Isle, the son of Clarence and Nellie (Kierstead) Tompkins. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a longtime resident of Kittery before moving to Caribou. Donald was a carpenter and painter for many years until his retirement, having been employed at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, J.C. Metivier & Co. and Yoken’s Restaurant, Port-smouth, N.H. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Masonic Naval Lodge No. 184, Kittery and the American Legion. Donald enjoyed traveling, playing cards and ceramics. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vickey Gerrish and her husband, Glen, of Lebanon; a brother, Richard Tompkins of El Cajon, Calif.; a granddaughter, Shannon Waggoner and her husband, Richard, of Limerick; a great-granddaughter, Alianna Waggoner of Limerick; Donald’s friend and companion, Maxine Stedt of Caribou; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday with a courtesy Masonic memorial service being held 6 p.m. by the officers and members of the Caribou Masonic Lodge No. 170 AF & AM, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at the chapel of Mockler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Patrick Soucier, officiating. Spring interment will take place at Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to contribute in memory of Donald may do so through the Activity Program, Maine Veterans’ Home, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME 04736. Envelopes may also be obtained through the funeral home. The family thanks the Stedt family and their extended family for their loving care, devotion and support that they gave to Ike.
