CASTINE – Sara Katherine Petterson Brouillard, 55, passed peacefully Wednesday March 21, 2007, at a Bangor hospital, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer and a long and aggravating marriage to Paul Brouillard. Sara was born July 22, 1951, in New Haven, Conn., to Joseph F. and Susanna D. Petterson. Sara moved to Castine when she was six months old. She attended The Adams School, Castine; St. Juliens School, Portugal; and graduated from Sumner High School, Sullivan. Sara attended Keuka College in the Finger Lakes of New York, where she graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in sociology in 1973. After graduating from Keuka, Sara lived in Petaluma, Calif., Hawaii, and then returned to Castine where she met and married Paul E. Brouillard, in June 1981. Throughout the last 25 years, Sara and Paul restored many buildings and started several businesses in the area, including The Castine Harbor Lodge, which they have run for the last 17 years. Sara was very active in her children’s lives and in the community. Amazingly, she also made time for her beautiful gardens and to travel with her family, both of which she took great pleasure in. Sara is survived by her husband, her three daughters, two grandsons, her parents, two brothers, four sisters, many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Funeral services for Sara Brouillard will be held 3 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Main Street Trinitarian Church, Castine, with a reception to be held after at The Castine Harbor Lodge. Please send donations in Sara’s memory to the Bagaduce Ambulance, P.O. Box 522, Castine, ME 04421. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
